26 February 2008 - 23:00History of Jaguar
You’ve seen the car on the hood. You know what this car is all about. The sleek design and the overall look just screams fancy. Jaguar has an incredible reputation. This reputation is one of great design and wealth. If someone drives a Jaguar, don’t you feel as though they might be important? Maybe you aren’t aware of how Jaguar came about. You know what the car looks like, and their great seal. But let’s learn a bit about their storied history.
The Birth of the Jaguar
In 1922, a new brand of car was founded by SS Cars Ltd. This luxury car was founded over in England (where it currently remains). The founders of SS Cars Ltd., William Lyons and Williams Walmsley, were both very big motorcycle enthusiasts. It was not until 1945 that the name Jaguar was embraced by the entire company, which was the name that was used for the entire operation. When the 1950s came about, Jaguar had begun to cement its name right along luxury. They wanted to design a great working machine that had the luxury fit for a king.
Jaguar Hits a Rough Point
During the 1970s and 1980s, Jaguar’s good name began to drop. Reliability among the vehicles was not viewed as common place any longer. But in 1989, Jaguar was rescued. The Ford Company came in and began to restore operations. Ford brought with them a fresh new set of ideals, and combined them with the stability of Jaguar. After the merge, Jaguar once again began to take off, and became a top 10 brand of car to start the new decade. Ford has since declared its intention to re-sell Jaguar, but Jaguar has definitely benefited because of the merge.
Jaguar’s Current Ventures
Jaguar has lent his name and its model to many racing companies. By racing their cars they have showed that not only is Jaguar a luxury automobile, but it has the drivability of a grand sports car. Throughout the years they have also unleashed a quality line of concept cars, and have trimmed their production line down. The numbers of cars dropped in order to focus on perfecting the cars they have. Like stated earlier, these luxury cars tend to be a bit more then their counterparts, but you get what you pay for. Combined with a fan base, and market that loves luxurious cars, the Jaguar is not going away anytime in the near future. You know what you are seeing when you look at that majestic car perched atop the hood. Many people like you have purchased these cars, and many more will. You can’t help but wonder what it would be like behind the wheel of a vehicle such as that.
